In the middle of last week, Real Madrid faced PSG in the first leg of the Champions League last 16. Karim Benzema, who is doubtful of being able to play in this match, was instead introduced as a starter in the match.

In that match, Benzema played for 87 minutes. Before finally at the end of the second half he was pulled out by Ancelotti.

Ancelotti made sure that he pulled Benzema off not because of injury. "Benzema's problem is not a physical one," Ancelotti said, quoted by Sportsmole.

Not optimal

According to Ancelotti, Benzema was withdrawn because he felt Benzema's presence in his squad was not optimal.

He considered Benzema not getting enough ball supply. So he is not optimal in Madrid's attack line.

"I pulled him off just before the end of the game. The problem was he didn't get the chances we wanted."

Poor Performance

Ancelotti himself admitted that his team's performance against PSG was quite disappointing. He thinks his team should have played better.

As a result, he hopes his team can improve their performance in the second leg later.

"We struggled to create chances and we had a hard time being pressed by them [PSG]," lamented the manager.

Reply in Second Leg

Real Madrid lost 1-0 in that match thanks to Kylian Mbappe's late goal.

Los Blancos hope to turn things around in the second leg on 9 March.
