Pratama Arhan must work hard to get a starting place at Tokyo Verdy's left-back post because in that position he has to compete with two other players.
Pratama Arhan officially became part of Tokyo Verdy as of Wednesday (16/2/2022). The Indonesian national team player was brought in for free from PSIS Semarang.
PSIS is willing to release Pratama Arhan for free as a form of support for its players who have careers abroad.
Pratama Arhan tied to Tokyo Verdy for two seasons. The defender who was born in Blora, Central Java, is planned to fly to Japan in March 2022.
Tokyo Verdy's role in the J2 League or the second tier of the Japanese League will begin on February 19, 2022. Pratama Arhan will likely miss a number of early season matches for the team nicknamed Verdy.
Tokyo Verdy's Left Full-back Stock
Last season, Tokyo Verdy had four left-wing defenders. The four of them are Takayuki Fukumura, Kazuki Anzai, Tatsuya Yamaguchi, and Yuta Nurawa.
Fukumura is the most common player to play for Tokyo Verdy with 34 appearances, followed by Yamaguchi with 15 matches, Anzai with 12 matches, and Narawa with 5 matches.
At the end of the season, Tokyo Verdy lost Fukumura who moved to fellow J2 League contestants, FC Ryukyu and Anzai who moved to J1 League participant, Sagan Tosu.
Practically, Tokyo Verdy's full-back stock was left with Yamaguchi and Nurawa before Pratama Arhan moved in.
Heavy in the Early Half of the Season
Yamaguchi is clearly the toughest competitor for Pratama Arhan at the left wing-back post. The 22-year-old player had studied at the Japanese League giants, Gamba Osaka.
Referring to last season's statistics, Yamaguchi is likely to be projected as Tokyo Verdy's main left-back with Nurawa as his back-up.
Apart from Yamaguchi, Pratama Arhan also needs to compete with Nurawa. The 34-year-old senior defender has been with Tokyo Verdy since 2019.
Adaptation
The first half of the season at Tokyo Verdy will be tough for Pratama Arhan. Because the best young player for the 2020 AFF Cup was late to join Tokyo Verdy.
Pratama Arhan must catch up with the conditions of his colleagues. The footballer who was born on December 21, 2001 also had to adapt to the new environment and Japanese football.
